the boxy bag

I was browsing Pinterest the other day and I found the CUTEST
little bag....
Which led me to one of my new favorite blogs

She solved this little diaper bag problem I have been having.
I needed something small that held some wipes
and a few diapers to leave with Z-baby in the nursery
because I needed the actual diaper bag with me.

I saw this idea and immediately thought that this would
be a great re-purpose project for this skirt.

(I love this material!)
You could just as easily go buy some fabric to use for this project!

I have been holding on to this skirt forever.
For some reason I got the idea in my head that this
would make the perfect addition to a Daphne (from Scooby Doo) costum.

I was always just waiting for it to magically fit. :)
I finally gave up!

I have to add that this skirt had a very noble beginning ;)
involving one of my older sisters,
 nights out dancing,
knee highs and platforms.

Can you say Clueless... or Spice girl!!

Don't be shy.
You know you owned a plaid mini skirt or two...

I was determined to reuse some of the cute embellishments from the skirt too.

I began by taking the zipper out of the skirt.
I was hoping to reuse it also, but it was to short.

I cut out two 9 x 12 pieces  from the skirt fabric
and two 9 x 12 pieces from my lining fabric.

(Sorry about being too lazy to iron)

In the spirit of full disclosure  I must share my
dumb-dumb move for this project.

I wasn't paying attention and cut out a piece
with my ripped out zipper slit on it.
Which would not have been that traumatic at all
if
it would not have been pulled apart about an inch when I cut the piece.
Good thing I figured out a way to fix it because I was OUT of skirt fabric!

I was so annoyed with myself that I just kind of whipped together the rest of the bag.
I wasn't too wild about the end result but I was done looking at it.

I figured it did the job so I would just be done with it.

Good thing I wasn't so annoyed the next day
and I fixed it a bit.
I sewed the corners up a little more to make it boxier
and I added a cute little strap using the belt and buttons from the skirt.

Isn't it cute!
An easy (FREE) solution!
You gotta love that.

P.S. This was my first zipper!!!
I am so relieved by how easy it was.
